Raymond A. Marinelli

January 13, 1928 — April 14, 2011

Raymond A. Marinelli, 83, of Warren died Thursday, April 14, 2011 at Shepherd of the Valley Nursing Home after a brief illness. Born January 13, 1928 in Warren, he was the son of the late Orazio and Filomena (DiCenso) Marinelli. A lifetime Warren area resident, Ray attended Warren G. Harding High School. He proudly served our country in the United States Marine Corps from 1945 to 1949. Upon receiving an honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, Ray enlisted in the United States Army. He served in the 82nd Airborn Division, was a Green Beret, and served on Special Forces from 1950 to 1969. During his military career, Ray fought courageously in seven conflicts to include; WWII, Korea, and two tours of Vietnam. Ray also had more than 500 parachute jumps. After retiring from the military, Ray returned home and began work as an Army recruiter in Downtown Warren. He later worked for Anchor Motor Freight in Lordstown, retiring as a yard foreman. Ray was a member of St. James Catholic Church, 3rd and 4th degree Knights of Columbus, K of C Warren Council 4484, BPO Elks 295, the Yasou Club, Ahepa Club, Warren Moose Lodge 186, VFW Post 1090, and the Highland NAUS Club. He will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Lynne A. Wilson Marinelli of Warren whom he married May 21, 2005, his children; Aurelio J. (Lyn) Marinelli of Baton Rouge, LA, Ramee A. (Carmen Denno) Marinelli of Howland Twp., Christina “Pudgy” (Jeffrey) Hunter of Winston Salem, NC, and Catherine “Kitty” Courtney of Emmaus, PA , a step daughter, Jennifer (Brad) Heilman of New Bury, OH, five grandchildren; Danielle Gilley, Michelle Petak, Georgeanne Petak, Nicholas Hunter, and Charles Courtney Jr., three step grandchildren; Addison Heilman and Michael and Katie Bradley, five great grandchildren; Jordan, Tyler, Anthony, Morgan and Lucas, two step great grandchildren; Hannah and Ava, and by a sister Rosalie DiCesare of Warren. Ray was preceded in death in 1997 by his first wife, Marsha M. Diakakis Marinelli, whom he married January 16, 1951, three brothers; Aurelio, Frank and Michael Marinelli and by a sister, Caroline Sciulli. Family and friends will be received Sunday evening from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Roberts-Clark Funeral Chapel. Rev. Charles Crumbley will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial Monday, April 18, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church. Burial will be take place in Oakwood Cemetery where full military honors will be observed. Material contributions may be made in Raymond’s memory to Hospice of the Valley at 5190 Market Street, Youngstown, OH 44512 or to Trumbull County Animal Welfare League at 545 Brunstetter Rd. SW Warren, OH 44481.
