Raymond D. Miller, 71 of Niles, died Friday morning, April 29, 2016, at the Cleveland Clinic. He was born May 27, 1944 in Warren, the son of the late Raymond and Elizabeth Ferrance Miller. Ray was a 1962 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School and served in the United States Navy from 1962 to 1966, during the Vietnam War and served as a radarman 2nd class on the aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea. Ray graduated from Youngstown State University in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Management. In 2002, he retired from Delphi Packard Electric after 33 years as a senior industrial engineer. He married the former, Janet Ann Liptak of Howland on December 28, 1968, who preceded him in death on June 4, 2008. Raymond and Janet had resided in Howland their entire married life until moving to Powell, Ohio in September 2007 to be closer to their youngest grandchildren. Ray moved to Niles in September 2009. Ray enjoyed working on computers and while in Warren owned his own computer assembly and repair business. He was an avid reader and enjoyed golf with his wife Deborah. Ray also loved Buckeye football and had been a member of the Ohio State Buckeyes Baseball Diamond Club. He had served as trustee in both the Howland Athletic Club and the Howland Quarterback Club. He was also a member of the USS Coral Sea CVA43 Association. He is survived by his wife, Deborah, whom he married September 11, 2009; his three children, Kevin Miller of Youngstown, Brad (Kendra) Miller of Cumming, Georgia and Amy (Jay) Hofmeister of Powell; two stepsons, Ryan Hunter and Kevin (Allison) Hunter of Huntington Beach, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Chad Miller of North Lima, Tyler Whitehead of East Palestine, Morgan and Jacob Hofmeister of Powell, Landry Miller of Cumming, GA, Blaine Hunter and Ryan Proulx both of Huntington Beach and his dog, Mollie at home. Ray is also survived by one sister, Linda Miller-Giampietro of Jensen Beach, Fla. and special extended family, John (Hannah) Hunter of Seacliff, NY and Shannon (Rick) Mowery of Warren. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts-Clark Chapel in Warren and also one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service Wednesday at the First Community Church of Leavittsburg with Pastor John Jaros officiating. Burial will be at Crown Hill Burial Park in Vienna.
