Raymond E. Diamond

Services will be held at 9:30AM Thursday in Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel and at 10AM in St. Christine Church for Raymond E. Diamond of Youngstown, who passed away Monday in the emergency room of St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, following a sudden illness. Raymond was 62. Raymond was born on May 6, 1943 in Youngstown, the son of the late Joseph and Pearl (Anderson) Diamond and was a life long area resident. He retired in 2005 from the Schwebel’s Baking Company where he had been in bun production for 36 years and was of the Catholic faith. Raymond was a graduate of Springfield High School and a veteran of the U. S. Air Force. Raymond was an avid sports fan, especially the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns, enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Schwebel’s Golf League, coach of the Boardman Challenger League and the Mill Creek Jr. Baseball League. He loved working with the children involved with the Special Olympics. Most of all, he was especially fond of all of his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife the former Linda Lukanec, whom he married October 18, 1973, two daughters; Paula (Dennis) Sopkovich and Deanna (Thomas) Kupec both of Canfield; three sons: Joseph (Michelle) Yannerella-Cleveland, Louis Yannerella, Youngstown, and Ray (Kim) Diamond of Hubbard, one sister; Mrs. Patty (Allan) Hayes of Salem, and fourteen grandchildren: Justin, Jordan, Joshua, Jessica, Tommy, Dyllan, Austin, Joey, Jacob, Shayna, Dominic, Michael, Brittany, & Alexys. Besides his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by two brothers Joseph and Robert Diamond. Family will receive friends from 5 to 8 pm Wednesday (today) at the funeral home and from 9 am until the time of closing prayers Thursday. Interment will take place in Lake Park Cemetery.
