Raymond E. Simkins, 87 There will be a memorial service 6:00 p.m. Monday, May 2nd at Lane Family Funeral Homes, 65 N. Broad Street, Canfield Chapel for Raymond E. Simkins, 87 of Canfield who died early Sunday morning at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Boardman Campus . Raymond was born August 25, 1928 in Struthers, a son of the late Benjamin William and Mary Agnes Rouan Simkins and was a lifelong area resident. He graduated from Wilson High School in 1947 and served four years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He had owned and operated the Sportsman's Den in Austintown for over 20 years. Raymond then worked for the Invisible Fence Company for nine years, where he had been the lead salesman. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed traveling and had been a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, #3298 of Austintown, where he had served as past worthy president. He leaves his wife, the former Marjatta Teijula, whom he married July 14, 1974; his children, son, Craig (Margaret) Simkins of Chapin, SC; a daughter, Janet Fichter of Plymouth, MA; and his youngest son, James (Andrea) Simkins of Boardman; two sisters, Sally Grapevine and Agnes Crossen both of Struthers; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and many four-legged granddogs. Besides his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by three brothers, Benjamin Simkins, Jack Simkins, Robert Simkins and three sisters, Mary Caddick, Loretta Niggel and Jane Mallarick. Friends may call on Monday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests material tributes take the form of contributions to Angels for Animals Friends, 4750 South Range Rd., Canfield, OH 44406.
