Raymond W. Thompson, Sr.

A Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church for Raymond W. Thompson Sr. of Austintown who passed away on Saturday at Forum Northside Hospital. Raymond was born February 8, 1939 in Youngstown, the son of Edgar R. and Eleanor (Sheehan) Thompson. He was a pipefitter for the P & L.E. Railroad and owned Tomasino’s Pizza Shop. He graduated from East High School in 1956, earned an Associates Degree in Labor Relations from Youngstown State University, and was an Army Veteran. A member of the church and an avid golfer and fisherman who always had a joke for everybody, Ray was a member of the Barbershopper’s Barbershop Quartet Group, the Victorian Players Victorian Theatre Group, the Gaelic Society, and the Cursillo. He was also a fireman in Austintown from 1980 to 1991 and was a little league baseball coach, a Struthers Hard Hats Football coach, and worked for the Handyman Connection. Raymond retired from Y.S.D. Industries in June of 2003. Besides his wife, the former Patricia Morris, whom he married February 1, 1964, Raymond leaves five children: Raymond W. Thompson Jr. of New Castle, Mark (Kristen) Thompson of Middletown CT, John R. Thompson of Austintown, Micky (Michele) Thompson of Lordstown, and Christopher P. Thompson of Austintown. He also leaves a sister Marsha Crespo of Youngstown and four grandchildren: Gabrielle, Joshua, Kristina, and Mikaela Thompson. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Bob and Jim Thompson as well as a sister Marion Smith. Friends and family may call from 5-8 PM on Tuesday at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown chapel where a Cursillo Bible Vigil service will take place at 8 PM.
