Rev. George R. Thompson

REV. GEORGE R. THOMPSON, SR. Austintown- Funeral services were held 11 AM Tuesday (January 24) at the Lane Funeral Home-Austintown Chapel for Rev. George R. Thompson, age 78 of Omni Manor, formerly of S. Raccoon Rd. who died Friday morning at Omni Manor. Rev. George was born Dec. 5, 1927 in Montgomery County, Miss. and was the son of the late George and Emma (Trotter) Thompson. He had worked for 31 years at U.S. Steel retiring as an assistant roller and after his retirement, he had worked for Giant Eagle He was an Evangelist and held many services around the area. Rev. George is survived by five children, Virdree (Margaret) Thompson of Fairborne, OH, Donna J. (Miazell) Thompson-Robbins, George (Heidi) Thompson, Jr. and Janice (William) Miller all of Youngstown and Roberta Higgins of Seattle, Washington. He also leaves two stepdaughters, Diane Clarke of Fairborne, OH, Rhonda (Robert) Williams of Youngstown and two stepsons, Gary Clarke and James Thorpe both of Youngstown, six sisters, Stella Mae Hamer of Memphis, TN, Cornelia Alexander of Jacksonville, Florida, Anne Mae Rudolph and Marie Johnson both of Youngstown, Emma Irene Ward of Memphis, TN, Minnie Elizabeth Smith of Wilmington, Delaware, two brothers Dorsey Thompson of Ft. Myers, FL and Lloyd Clyde Thompson of Germany and 17 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Benjamin F. and Eugene Thompson and one granddaughter, Jeneen R. Thompson. Calling hours were held Jan. 23 from 5-8 PM at the funeral home.
