Canfield- Services celebrating the life of Jim Grope will be held at 10am Saturday at Wedgewood Park Evangelical Church. Jim was born July 23, 1922 in Youngstown the son of Matthew and Elsie (Bossert) Grope and was a lifelong area resident. Jim graduated from Boardman High School, Philadelphia School of Bible and Akron Bible Institute. He retired in 2000 as minister of McKinley Community Church in Warren. He also served his country during WWII serving in the Navy. Jim was a member of Wedgewood Park Evangelical Church and the American Legion Post 177 of Canfield. He will be sadly missed by his children; Judy (Walter) Deiley of Canfield, Janet Lee (Terry) Boros of Atlanta, GA. and James (Patty) Grope Jr. of Canfield. He will also be missed by his 11 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife Marjorie (Weyrick) whom he married May 9, 1943, brothers Ray, John, Charles and Matthew Grope, sister Dorothy Mae Bissenden and great grandson Mark Dorsey Jr. Family and friends may call from 5-8pm Friday evening at the Lane Family Funeral Home Austintown Chapel and from 9-10am Saturday at the church prior to services. The Grope family requests that memorial contributions take the form of donations to the church or Hospice of the Valley in Jim's name.
