Canfield- Funeral services will be held at 11 am Thursday at the Lane Funeral Home Canfield Chapel for Richard Roofner who died Sunday evening at the Hospice House. Dick was born December 15, 1928 in Kittanning, PA. the son of William C. and Adeline (Crowe) Roofner. Dick retired in 1993 from Operating Engineers local #66 where he had worked as a heavy equipment operator for 30 years. He was a member of the Retirees Club District 2 of the Operating Engineers, former member of the Ellsworth Volunteer Fire Department. Dick was very involved in the Masons belonging to, Allen Lodge in Columbiana, Al Koran Shrine, Youngstown Shrine Club, Niles Chapter #223 Royal and Arch Masons, Niles Council Royal and Select Masons and Niles Commandry # 79 Knight Templar. Dick was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Veteran of WWII serving in the Army. He also owned and operated "House of Glass" from his residence for many years. Dick is survived by his wife Emily (Calhoun) Roofner whom he married September 21, 1947, grandsons, Michael A. Roofner Jr., Richard (Barbara) Roofner and Justin R. Roofner and great grandchildren; Summer, Hunter, Gloria and Anthony. He is also survived by his brother William Roofner in Mississippi. Dick was preceded in death by his parents and Son Michael A. Roofner Sr. Family and friends may call from 5-8 pm Wednesday at the funeral home. The family requests that memorial contributions take the form of donations to the Hospice House.
