Richard E. Carr, 73, of Akron, formerly of Fowler Twp., passed away May 26, 2013 at his home in Akron. He was born January 26, 1940 in Bolindale, OH, son of Freda Velma Neiman and James F. Carr, Sr. Richard was a 1958 graduate of Fowler High School, and retired from Akron General Medical Center in 2005 after working almost 40 years. He enjoyed all sports on TV including NBA, NFL and was a fan of the Cleveland Indians. In his younger days he bowled and played baseball for AGMC teams. He also enjoyed tennis, was an avid reader and like to garden. He enjoyed traveling with his brother Jack, and especially visiting presidential libraries/museums, and liked the occasional trip to the Mountaineer Casino. He is survived by his sister, Lois Burnett of Brookfield; brother, Jack of Mecca; brother in law, Jack Nagy of St.Petersburg, FL; numerous nieces, a nephew and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary and Patty, a brother James F. Carr, Jr. and a nephew, James F. Carr III. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM - 1:00PM Friday May 31, 2013 at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Shafer-Winans Chapel 164 N. High St. Cortland, OH 44410, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM. Interment will be in the Dugan Cemetery in Fowler. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in his name to the American Diabetes Association 1815 West market St. Suite 108 Akron, OH 44313.
