Richard H Gibbs

Richard H. Gibbs, 80, of Howland Twp. passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side at 5:30 AM Tuesday Jan. 12, 2010 following a brief illness. He was born April 25, 1929 in Salem, OH the son of John N. and Eloise (Cornell) Gibbs. A lifetime area resident Dick was a 1947 Graduate of Youngstown Chaney High School. He served in the US Army during the Korean War with the 62D Engineer Topographic Company attaining the rank of corporal. Upon returning from the war, he went to work as a linotype operator for the Youngstown Vindicator for several years and then was the owner-operator of Anderson Appliance Service for 35 years retiring in 1992. Dick was an active member of the Howland United Methodist Church where he served as trustee. He was a member of the Crosstrailers Square Dance club and he enjoyed gardening, camping, and he loved animals and riding his tractor. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 59 years, Gloria M. (Anderson) Gibbs whom he married June 21, 1950, daughter Lisa (James) Clark of Berlin Center, OH, son David (Carrie) Gibbs of Hartford, and 3 grandchildren; Jessica (Ross) Meloro of Chicago, Jacob and Joshua Clark of Berlin Center. He also leaves a twin brother Robert (Barbara) Gibbs of Canfield, sister-in-law Louise Wilson of Moundsville, WV, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Mae Pelanda, and a brother Gerald Gibbs. A memorial service will be 2:00 PM Saturday Jan. 16, 2010 at the Howland United Methodist Church where friends will be received from 12 Noon until service time. Pastor Ronald Spore will officiate. The Trumbull County Honor Guard will also conduct military honors at the church. Cremation has taken place.
