Richard Lawrence Seaman, Sr., age 89, of Canfield passed away at his home on Monday, April 30, 2018. Born June 18, 1928 in Austintown; he was the son of Cecil and Velma (Crawford) Seaman. Richard carried on the family trait of working as a carpenter, being the fifth generation to do so. He retired in 1990 from General Motors after 25 years of service; prior to G.M., he worked outside construction with Local #171. He was a member of the Ellsworth Community Church, and a former member of the Canfield Christian Church where he served as Chairman of the Trustees as well as served as a Deacon; he was a member of the Canfield Ruritan Club, Manager of Little League for four years and the Pony League for two years; and served previously as the President of Little League. He and his wife had taken in and cared for many different individuals, including family and friends. Survivors include his two daughters, Linda (Phil) Astorino of Boardman and Deborah Gail Seaman of Youngstown, and one son, Richard L. (Charlotte) Seaman, Jr. of Berlin Center; five grandchildren: Tara (John) Reed, Carey Rose, Richard L. Seaman, III, Joshua Miles, and Chelsea Miles; five great-grandchildren: Caitlin Mariah Rose, Christopher Rose, Andrew Seaman, Daniel Seaman and Emily Reed; a brother Ralph Seaman; a special niece, Jill Rymal Reed, whom the Seamans raised after the death of her mother; as well as many other special nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his wife of over 70 years, Edna (Wehr), who passed away on October 27, 2017; as well as a sister Beverly Behnke, and three brothers: Cecil, Robert, and Kenneth Seaman. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to a special niece and caregiver, Sue Himes. Friends will be received at the Lane Funeral Home, Canfield Chapel on Wednesday from 4-7PM, where services will be held on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at 10:30AM with Pastor Jay Eastman officiating. Burial will take place beside his wife at Green Haven Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made either to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman, Ohio 44512, or a charity of ones choice.
