Richard "Rick" Coons

January 7, 1953 — July 8, 2020

Richard (Rick) Coons of Cortland, Ohio passed away at the Concord Care Center of Cortland at the age of 67 years on July 8th, 2020. Rick was born on January 7th, 1953 in Warren, Ohio to George Coons and Frances Keyser Coons Ganard. Rick graduated high school from Warren G. Harding in 1971 and then went on to graduate with a B.S. in Education from Kent State University. Rick was employed for 21 years at Bloom Industries in Warren and prior to that was a self-employed carpenter.

Rick enjoyed the Browns, Indians, golfing, and yes mowing his lawn. Earlier in his life he was an avid hiker. Two of his most memorable hikes were two months on the Appalachian Trail and a one-month trek on the Island of Maui. He was extremely proud of his two grown sons Ryan and Cody and was always eager to talk about his two grandchildren Desmond and Lydia. He will be fondly remembered by family and friends as an honest, talented, and caring man. He possessed the ability and inclination to start up a conversation with anyone and leave them feeling special. His carpentry skills were unsurpassed.

Mr. Coons is survived by his son Ryan and daughter in law Emily Dawson of Worcester, Ma. and two grandchildren Desmond and Lydia Dawson. Also, son Cody Coons and Kate Zajc of Hilliard, Ohio. Brother Michael and Deborah Coons of Manitou Beach, Mi. Sister in law Saundra and Glen Buller, Grand Rapids, Mi. Nephews and Nieces: Tim and Robyn Coons, Mi., Tom and Kris Coons, Ky., Corbin Coons, Mi., Kinson Coons, Mi., Kendra Coons, Mi., Kaitlyn Coons, Mi., Noel and Jaeden Coons, Ky., Uncle Paul and Considine Cousins, Oh.
Preceded in death by parents George Coons and Frances Keyser Coons Ganard, Warren, OH. Brother Terrence Coons, Grand Rapids, Mi.

Rick's most proud accomplishment was his victory over his long battle with alcoholism. His sudden passing found him sober, happy, and with a renewed self-confidence. He will be missed but never forgotten.

A private graveside interment at All Souls Cemetery will be held at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Warren Family Mission, P.O. Box 311 Warren, Ohio 44482. Services entrusted to Lane Funeral Homes, Roberts-Clark Chapel.
