Richard W. Smith

Richard W. Smith, age 66, of Johnston Twp. died Monday, July 7, 2008, at his residence. He was born on April 15, 1942 in Youngstown, the son of the late Lawrence W. Smith and the late Arrietta M. (Bennett) Smith. Mr. Smith was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during Vietnam. He was employed by Ohio Corrugating in Warren, where he retired after 20 years of service. Richard was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed fishing and attending the horse races. He will best be remembered as a man who enjoyed spending his time with his family. Richard is survived by his wife, Carol A. (Penn) Smith, whom he married on December 21, 1965, three daughters, Janet (Juergen) Kunz of Germany, Cynthia J. Smith of Warren and Connie I. (Craig) Dorenkott of Rocky River, Ohio, two brothers, William (Patricia) Smith of Apopka, FL. and his twin brother, Harry Smith of Girard. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Jacob and Luke Dorenkott and Andreas and Christian Kunz, a nephew, William Smith of Kinsman and a special friend, Kimberly Trupe of Warren. Richard was preceded in death by one son, Richard L. Smith and by one brother, Thomas Smith. Arrangements are being handled by Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel, 164 North High Street, Cortland, Ohio, where the family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Friday, July 11, 2008. Funeral service will be at the funeral home at 11:00 AM Friday. Interment will be at Johnston Twp.
