EDWARDS, ROBERT YOUNGSTOWN: Robert A. Edwards, age 65 passed away peacefully at his home with his loving wife by his side on Tuesday, April 21, 2015. Robert was born on June 6, 1949 in Youngstown to parents; Alfonso and Genevieve (Korda) Edwards. Robert married Sharon P. McCourt on September 13, 1995. Robert graduated in 1968 from South High School, Youngstown and started attending Youngstown State University until he was drafted in the United States Army. Robert proudly served his country and became a sharpshooter while serving in Vietnam. After serving the US Army from 1969-1971 he entered into Officer Training School and became Captain in 1997. Robert retired from the Army after 25 years of service. Robert was very active in many community activities in recognition to becoming a Masonic member of Argus Lodge 545, F&AM. Robert became Master of Argus Lodge in 2004. Robert was the only member of Argus and one of only a few members of the 24th Masonic District to attend all lodge inspections. The District is composed of 24 lodges and 4 Ohio counties with approximately 6500 members. A 32nd Degree Mason of the Scottish Rite, Robert was also a member of York Rite, The Al Koran Shrine and the Aut Mori Grotto and of its clown unit, and Grotto Veterans Unit where he was known as "Who Me". Robert was a member of the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army. He enjoyed travel, woodworking, playing cards, but most of all time spent with his grandchildren. Robert retired in 2000 as a Sergeant Detective after 25 years of services to the Youngstown Police Department. Robert was the Financial Secretary for the Youngstown Fraternal Order of Police 28. Robert is survived by his loving wife, his mother; Genevieve Mavrikis, children; Leslie (Mike) Seman, Robert (Sergei) Edwards (Cleveland), Kristine (Jerry) Miller (Washington Court House) siblings; Katherine Mancuso (Texas), Frank Edwards (Poland), Linda Hyland (Boardman), Nikkaleen Hatfield (Youngstown), and four grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2015 from 4-7pm at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel with a Masonic service at 7:00pm. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 27th at 11am at the funeral home with visitation 1 hour prior to service. Pastor Steve Spurlock, of Newton Falls Baptist Church will conduct the services.
