AUSTINTOWN-There are no services or calling hours scheduled for Robert A. Herman of S. Dehoff Dr in Austintown, who passed away at 12:20 AM Thursday in Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, while visiting his daughter. Robert was 85. Robert was born on October 29, 1920 in Austintown and was the son of Frank and Alta (Crum) Herman. Robert was a 1939 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School and went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree from Youngstown State College and then on to pursue a Master’s Degree in Education from Westminster College. Robert also attended Ohio State, where he was working on a doctorate degree. Robert was a teacher in the Austintown Local School District for 28 years. Robert was a veteran of the United States Army where he was a staff sergeant having served in Europe during World War II, where he was a prisoner of war for 6 weeks. Robert was a member of the Canfield United Methodist Church, a member of the 8th Airforce Historical Society, the 486th Bombers Group, was past president of the Austintown Coaches Association, member of the Ohio Education Association, former basketball coach in the Vienna School District, and was the Tri-County Coach of the Year in 1952. Robert was married on August 12, 1947 to the former Margaret Eleanor DeZee, who passed away on February 2, 2005. Robert will be sadly missed by two daughters Carol (Bob) Burns of Columbus, and Sharon (Nick) Sudano of Niles; one brother Fred Herman of Omaha, Nebraska; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Besides his parents and his wife, Robert was preceded in death by a sister Marian Brown and a brother John Herman. A caring cremation has taken place and inurnment will take place in Green Haven Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are entrusted to the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel.
