Robert Allen Peterson Sr., age 66, of Fowler, Ohio, died Friday, May 4, 2007, at 1:30 AM at Sharon Regional Hospital in Sharon, PA. He was born on November 15, 1940 in Warren, OH., the son of the late Clyde Peterson and the late Betty Rudy Peterson. Mr. Peterson was employed by Alcan Aluminum Co., where he had worked for thirty five years as a tow motor operator, retiring in 2003. Besides working at Alcan, Robert had worked for Shaefer Equipment Inc. for ten years, as well as serving as the Johnston Twp. Constable for eighteen years and as Police Chief for Fowler Twp. for seven years. Mr. Peterson had been a volunteer fireman for Johnston Twp. and had belonged to the Cortland Masonic Lodge for many years. Robert was an avid Indians fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR, almost as much as he enjoyed being retired. However, Robert will best be remembered as a family man. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Louise A. (Johnston) Peterson, whom he married on September 19, 1960. Two daughters, Ann (Richard) Ponder of Hartford, OH., and Merri (Rodney) Smith of Hartford, OH. One son, Robert (Carol) A. Peterson Jr. of Johnston, OH. Five sisters, Janet (Floyd) Williams of Leavittsburg, OH., Vivian Culver of Leavittsburg, OH., Ila Fenstermaker of Southington, OH., Betty Linger of Cortland, OH., and Jeane Beach of Cortland, OH., and one brother, Dale Peterson of Columbus, OH. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Robert was preceded in death by both parents and a brother John Rudy. Arrangements are being handled by Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel, 164 North High Street, Cortland, Ohio, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Sunday, May 6, 2007. Funeral service will be at Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel at 11:00 AM Monday, May 7, 2007. Interment will be at Dugan Cemetery in Fowler, Ohio.
