Robert Anthony Gibbs

ROBERT ANTHONY GIBBS CORNERSBURG- A Memorial Service for Robert Gibbs will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Bob was born April 25, 1929 in Youngstown, a son of John Nelson and Eloise Cornell Gibbs. After graduating from Chaney High School in 1947, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Korean conflict. He was happily married to Mildred "Millie" Bare until her death, then married Janice Erck and helped raise her two children Andrea and David. He worked for Terrace Gardens, Wormley's Plumbing and Duncan Plumbing, retiring in 1991. As a youth he attended Everybody's Bible School where his mother was choir director and pianist. Then he became an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where he was an Elder, choir member and Mr. Fixit for many years. Bob was a true Christian gentleman. He was devoted to his church and enjoyed working there on various projects. He could be heard whistling favorite hymns as he worked on various jobs. The love and fellowship he shared with his many friends and his true devotion to helping others is a testimony to his faith. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Barbara, whom he married in 1982; his children, Donald (Susie) Gibbs of Florida, Karen (Ken) Garling of Hubbard and Kevin (Marilyn) Gibbs of Spencer, OH who will forever share many precious memories of their dad. He also leaves step-children who adored him, Scott (Julie) Pinkerton of Champaign, IL, Beth Pinkerton O'Dea of Hubbard and David (Denise) Pinkerton of Pickerington, OH, Andrea Erck and David Erck, both of Youngstown. He also leaves several grandchildren and gr. grandchildren. Besides his parents and first wife, Bob was preceded in death by his twin brother, Richard, his brother Gerald and his sister, Mae Pelanda. The family would like to thank the staff at Ivy Woods Manor for their compassionate care and concern during the last days of Bob's life. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at Westminster Presbyterian Church and from 9-10 a.m. on Saturday, prior to the Service at the church. Contributions may be made to his memorial fund at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 119 Stadium Dr., Yo., OH 44512 or to a charity of their choice.
