Robert C Hanshaw

Robert Cecil Hanshaw, age 67 of Niles, Ohio, died on Monday, May 19, 2014 at 4:48 AM at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown. He was born on May 14, 1947 in Warren, Ohio, the son of the late Cecil and Thelma Tomlin Hanshaw. Mr. Hanshaw was a 1965 high school graduate of Mineral Ridge High School. He loved to shoot pool and played in many tournaments. He loved sports and being with his family, especially his grandchildren. Robert was an honorably discharged US Army Veteran serving in the Vietnam War where he received a purple heart. Bob was a lifetime member of AMVETS Post #106 in Niles; he also was a member of the Army/Navy Garrison #252 in Niles, and the VFW in Niles. Survivors include his wife, the former Mary Nickell, whom he married on May 8, 1985; his three children, Shawn Hanshaw, Sr., Charrisse Mackey, and Roberta Tuchek all of Niles; his grandsons, Shawn Hanshaw, Jr. who shared his home, Adam Russo of Niles and ten other grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings, Eugene (Janet) Hanshaw of Youngstown, Donald Hanshaw of Howland, Elmer Roy Hanshaw of Mansfield, Judy Hanshaw of Niles, Edith Waggoner of Niles, and Debbie Hanshaw of Orange Village. Also surviving are his two half-brothers, Robert (Jackie) Hanshaw and Marvin (Rose) Hanshaw. Other than his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his sister, Phyllis Brown, and his half-siblings, Lola, Coy, and Johnny. Funeral services will be held at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Niles Chapel, on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 12:00 PM, where Pastor Darrell Cline will celebrate Robert's life. Family and friends may visit on Friday, May 23, 2014 from 5-7 PM at the Niles Chapel. Burial will take place at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, Ohio on Tueday, May 27, 2014 at 2:30 PM.
