Robert Earl Hammond, 66 Canfield: Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m Monday, April 20th at Lane Family Funeral Home, 65 N. Broad Street, Canfield Chapel for Robert Earl "Bobby" Hammond who died early Wednesday morning. . Bobby was born December 26, 1948 in Alliance, Ohio. A son of Donald L. and Ruth E. (Thomas) Hammond and was a lifelong area resident. He attended Canfield Schools from kindergarten until he graduated in 1967 where he was honored at graduation for 13 years of perfect attendance. He graduated from Youngstown State University in 1971 with an engineering degree and also had perfect attendance at YSU. Bobby owned and operated a fabricating shop specializing in drive shafts. Race drivers from many states were constant customers, as he could make and fabricate all needed parts and repairs. He was "king" of drive shafts. Bobby built and drove stock cars at many speedways, including Canfield, Sharon, Butler, Pittsburgh. Orrville, and Expo. He also helped his father Donnie maintain the Canfield Speedway track. Bobby received state champion in 1979 (track rabbit), a go-cart made in Sebring, Ohio. He raced at Lake Placentia, Sebring and Youngstown. He was inducted into the Tri-state Hall of Fame Racing Club as a driver-mechanic and was a former member of Canfield Methodist Church. He leaves his mother, Ruth Hammond of Canfield; a brother, William Richard Hammond of Canfield; a sister, Bonita Viele of Hubbard; nephew, Jeremy Hammond, Niece Monique Tomko and a great niece Ava Grace Tomko all of Canfield. He was preceded in death by his father. Friends may call on Sunday at Lane Family Funeral Home from 2:00 5:00 p.m.
