Robert Howard Bogen

May 20, 1928 — January 24, 2014

Robert H. Bogen, 85, passed away peacefully on Jan. 24, 2014 at his residence in Warren surrounded by his loving family. He was born in 1928 in Youngstown, the son of Milton and Maree Harris Bogen. Bob was a 1945 graduate of Rayen High School. He attended the The Ohio State University, and graduated from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. He was a U.S. Army veteran. In 1957, Robert married Beverly Reisman. They spent 56 wonderful years together. Bob was known for being a championship caliber golfer. As a young man, he grew up across the street from Stambaugh Municipal Golf Course on Youngstown's North Side. Because of his adept skills and talent, he acquired the nickname "Scratch". He won countless trophies and awards beginning as a junior golfer. He played in many tournaments and gained a stellar reputation as an excellent golfer. Everyone said that "no one hit a golf ball like Bobby Bogen". He was a member of Squaw Creek Country Club, where he won club championships. Robert began his career working as a foreman with B&B Construction Co. in Youngstown. He later worked at Ward's Clothiers in Warren. He retired after many years from Reisman's Furniture in Downtown Niles, where he was well liked and will be remembered by many customers and friends. Robert served on the boards of many organizations including the Better Business Bureau, Warren General Hospital, Squaw Creek Country Club and Beth Israel Temple Center. He was a member of the Niles Rotary Club, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow, and a member of the Niles Chamber of Commerce. Besides his passion for golf, Robert was an avid gardner, and a master craftsman. In later years, he enjoyed building intricately detailed model wooden boats. Bob is survived by his wife, Beverly Reisman Bogen and three children, Pami Bogen and Atty. Curt P. Bogen both of Warren and Dr. Gregg L. (Jill) Bogen of Canfield and three grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Edward Bogen. Family and friends may visit on Thursday, January 30, 2014 from 12:30 to 2:00p.m. at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts Clark Chapel, 180 Garfield Drive NE, Warren, where funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be at Beth Israel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert's memory may be made to the Northeast Ohio Medical University Foundation (NEOMED Foundation), 4209 St. Rt. 44, P.O. Box 95, Rootstown, Ohio 44272.
