Robert L. Thompson, Sr.

Robert Louis "Bob" Thompson, Sr., of 507 Albright-McKay Rd., SE, Brookfield, Ohio, died at 11:00 AM Saturday (10-18-2008) in the O'Brien's Memorial Nursing Home, Masury, Ohio, following an extended illness. He was 73. Mr. Thompson was born at home in Sharon, Pennsylvania on December 23, 1934, a son of George and Ruth (Burns) Thompson. After graduating from Brookfield High School in 1952, Bob married the love of his life, Jo Ann Ruth Suttles on November 21, 1953. Bob started working at the Morris Lumber, Vienna, Ohio, and in 1955 he took employment with the National Life Insurance Company. In 1963, he began his career at the Governor Insurance Agency, Vienna. He purchased the company in 1966. Bob successfully ran the Agency until his semi-retirement in 1992. He also was the former owner and operator of the Ponderosa Lake, Brookfield. He was a member of the Brookfield United Methodist Church; Jerusalem Lodge F&AM, Hartford, Ohio; 33rd Degree Shriner, Youngstown, Ohio; past president of the Vienna Kiwanis; past president of the Trumbull County Independent Insurance Agents; and he was the past president of the Ohio Valley Lincoln Club. In his spare time, he enjoyed collecting Lincoln cars, traveling, and gambling. Survivors include: his wife, Jo Ann; his sons, Robert L. Thompson, Jr. & his wife Dawn Dickson, Hubbard, Ohio, David A. Thompson, Ravenna, Ohio, Jeffrey L. Thompson, Mineral Ridge, Ohio, and D. Scott Thompson, Hubbard, Ohio; his brothers, Tom Thompson & his wife Barb, Hubbard, Ohio, Jerry Thompson & his wife Carol, Brookfield, Ohio, and Charles "Chick" Thompson, Brooksville, Florida; his eleven grandchildren, Lauren, Bob III, Abbey, Annie, Amber, Andrew, Ashley, Tristan, Tanner, Tyler and his five great-grandchildren, Brandon, Bobby IV, Josslyn, Aubrey Rose, and Little Will. He was preceded in death by his parents; and by his brother, Jack Thompson. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday (10-23-2008) at the Lane Funeral Homes, Madasz Chapel, Brookfield, with Rev. Bill Johnson, Pastor. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4-8 PM.
