Robert Michael Carr

Army SGT. Robert 'Robbie' Michael Carr, age 22, of Fowler Twp., Formerly of Champion Twp., Ohio, died Tuesday, March 13, 2007, in Baghdad, Iraq, from injuries sustained by a roadside bomb (Improvised Explosive Devise, IED). He was born on August 25, 1984 in Warren, Ohio, the son of Jeffrey Alan Carr and Christine M. (LaBanc) Wortman. SGT. Carr had joined the Army following the attacks on 9/11. He was a Sergeant with the 2nd Brigade, 2/12 Infantry Division, stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado, serving his second tour in Iraq. Robbie was a fan of the UFC, Ultimate Fighting Championship, and had hoped to one day fight as an 'Ultimate Fighter'. He was very athletic and enjoyed all types of sports, from football to wrestling. Robbie was an Ohio State Football fan as well as a Cincinnati Bengals fan. He had many hobbies. He enjoyed four wheeling, and playing video games. However, some of his favorite pastimes would have been the time he spent with his friends, family and his wife Nina. Robbie and his wife enjoyed the quiet times they had together, taking long walks, hiking and visiting the zoo. Robbie will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He is survived by his wife of Fowler, formerly of Champion, Nina J. (Villio) Carr, whom he married on April 10, 2006. Father, Jeffrey (Cathy) Carr of Fowler. Mother, Christine (William) LaBanc Wortman of Champion. Paternal great grandmother, Ella Jean Wright of Eustis, FL. Paternal grandparents, Patricia (James) Burgess of Warren, and Larry (Sally) Carr of New Lyme, OH. Maternal grandmother, Linda LaBanc of Warren. Brother, Army Sgt. Matthew P. Carr of Fort Drum, NY. Three sisters, Air Force Staff Sgt. Jennifer (Chad) Brady of Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Tucson, AZ., Julie M. Carr of Fowler and Rachel M. Carr of Champion. Also surviving are two step-sisters, four step-brothers, two nephews, several aunts and uncles, as well as his dog 'Toby'. SGT. Carr was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Paul LaBanc. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 25, 2007 from 4 pm - 8 pm at the Believiers Christian Fellowship Church, 2577 Schenley Ave NE Warren, Ohio. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 26, 2007 at 11 am at the church. Interment will be at the Dugan Cemetery in Fowler Twp. Arrangements are being handled by Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel, 164 North High Street, Cortland, Ohio.
