Robert Paul Zukowski

Robert Paul Zukowski, 76, passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital in Warren, Ohio. He was born on December 29, 1939 in Hamtramck, Michigan, son of the late Frances and Hedwig (Stryjak) Zukowski. Paul lived in Michigan until joining the Air Force in 1962, then lived in Arkansas until 2006 when he moved to Champion Township, Ohio. Paul was a veteran of the United States Air Force retiring in 1982 after 20 years of active duty service. He served in the Rank of Master Sergeant and was a Missile Maintenance Superintendent. He also retired from the United States Postal Service in Arkansas where he worked in the distribution center as a mail sorter for many years. Paul married his wife Constance "Connie" Stewart on December 19, 1977. He enjoyed fishing and gardening, and feeding and watching the birds in his yard. He was known to spend hours in his garage tinkering with things. He was an animal lover who had a special place in his heart for his pet cats and dogs. Paul was known as the 'Candy Man of Champion' because he loved to pass out candy treats to everyone he met. Robert is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Connie Zukowski; Mitchell (Sheila) Zukowski, Tammie (Steve) Miller, Susan (Tim) Downs, and Chuck (Sylvia) Starratt; seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; and cousin and best friend, Fr. Nicholas Zukowski. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jeffrey Zukowski and brother, Frank Zukowski. Calling hours will be held on Monday, April 4, 2016 at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts Clark Chapel, 180 Garfield Drive NE, Warren, from 11:00 A.M. To 12:00 P.M. Funeral services will follow calling hours on Monday, beginning at 12:00 P.M. Burial will follow at Champion Township Cemetery where full military honors will be served by the American Legion Post #540 of Cortland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Mr. Zukowski to the Birds in Flight Sanctuary, 8655 Warwick SE, Warren, Ohio 44484.
