Robert L. McDonald, 80, of Cortland, died 9:00 PM Thursday Nov.1, 2007 at his residence following a lengthy illness. He was born Oct. 22, 1927 in Warren the son of Bernard McDonald and Audrey (Robinson) McDonald Dawkins. A lifetime area resident, he was a graduate of Niles McKinley High School. Bob served in the US Navy during WW 2 and was employed by Greenwood Chrysler-Plymouth as a salesman and parts manager for 30 years retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Second Christian Church of Warren, Warren Moose Lodge #186, and was an accomplished stained-glass artist. Bob is survived by his companion of twenty-five years, Roberta “Birdie” Beckner, daughters Sandra Rose of Oakland, CA, Kathy Muntz of Southington, sons Jeffrey McDonald of San Francisco, Robert McDonald Jr. of Howland, and “Birdie’s” children, James (Debbie) Murray of Bessemer, AL, Kristen (Jeff) Harrison of Cortland, Jackie (Kevin) Bokros of Simpsonville, SC, and Jeff (Pam) Beckner of N. Liberty, Iowa. He also leaves 6 grandchildren Zachary, Shean, Carlynn, Shawn, Richard, Christopher and 3 great grandchildren Hope, Jesse, and Laurynn. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Virginia Peterson, and an infant brother. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday November 5, 2007 at Roberts-Clark Chapel where friends will be received from 4:00-7:00 Sunday. The Reverend Donald Barnes will officiate. Interment will be in Pine Knoll Cemetery. The family suggests material contributions be made to Children’s Rehabilitation Center 885 Howland Wilson Rd.
