RONALD L. SHIMER 19272008 WARREN Ronald L. Shimer, 81, passed away at his residence on May 7, 2008. Ron was born April 1, 1927 at Freed, Calhoun County, W.Va., the son of Lemuel Harley and Lovisa (Fox) Shimer. He grew up in Munday, W.Va. and graduated from Wirt County High School in 1944. He earned a Bachelor's degree from Marietta College in 1949 where he was a member of the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity. He went on to receive a Master's degree from West Virginia University. Ron married his loving wife of 54 years, Jerry (Boles) Shimer, on November 21, 1951. They started a family and moved to Ohio shortly thereafter. Jerry was called home to the Lord in 2006 where Ron now joins her. He was an athletic coach, educator, and school administrator for over 30 years in West Virginia and Ohio. In 1981, he retired as the principal of Warren G. Harding High School. However, to his family, he was a lifelong educator. Throughout his much-respected career, Ron participated in many professional, civic, and church organizations. During his 50-year active membership at Champion Presbyterian Church, he was a member of the golf league, sat on numerous committees, taught adult Sunday School, and held 3 terms as an Elder. Ron also volunteered at Trumbull Memorial Hospital for 10 years. He was recognized, along with his wife, by Governor and Mrs. Taft for this selfless dedication in 2004. Ron was an avid sports fan and participant. Along with following the athletic activities of his children and grandchildren, he was also a member of the Warren Sports Hall of Fame. He will be profoundly missed by the community he so deeply loved, contributed to, and touched with his subtle wit and humble attitude. He is survived by a son, Phil Shimer and his wife, Kiena Smith, of Charleston, W.Va.; a daughter, Vickie Anderson and husband, Richard, of Champion Township; a son-in-law, William Tuttle, of Howland; six grandchildren, Deanna Tuttle-Howard and husband, Brian, Sarah Meadors and husband, Michael, Aaron Tuttle, Joshua Smith-Shimer, Emily Tuttle, and Maggie Smith-Shimer; and three great-granddaughters, Miranda, Abigail, and Sofia Meadors. He also leaves two brothers, Donald and Herb; and three sisters, Madeline, Mavadelle, and Barbara. Friends will be received from 5-8 Friday May 9, 2008 and from 9-10 Saturday at Champion Presbyterian Church, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Rev. Dr. David Robert Black will officiate. Ron will be laid to rest at Crown Hill Burial Park in Vienna, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, Ron's family requests that material contributions be made to the Church Organ Fund at Champion Presbyterian Church or to the American Diabetes Association.
