Mineral Ridge- Funeral services will be held 11AM Wed. in the First Presbyterian Church of Mineral Ridge for Ronald Lee Garland age 73 of 1547 Burnett St.. Ron passed away Sat afternoon at his home surrounded by his loving family after a 19 month courageous battle with cancer. Ron was born July 13, 1931 in Mineral Ridge and was the son of Paul and Bessie M. (John) Garland. He spent his working career as a truck driver for various companies in the area, bus driver, restaurant and concession trailer operator and had also been a cook at the Mineral Ridge Middle School. Ron was a lifetime member of the Mineral Ridge Fire Dept. where he had been a Lieutenant and had also helped in the Fireman’s Festival, a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he was Church Man of the Year in 2003, had cooked the sunrise breakfast on Easter morning at the church for the past 17 years and traveled with his Church Youth Group. He was a member of the V.F.W. of Mineral Ridge, a member of the Athletic Boosters and the Chain Gang of Mineral Ridge Football. He had served in the Air Force during the Korean War in the Military Police. Ron loved to play golf, softball, enjoyed gardening, watching eagles and was an avid fisherman. Ron also enjoyed supporting his grandchildren in their sporting events. He had been active in the community displaying the flags on Rt. 46 in Mineral Ridge during the holidays. Ron leaves his wife, the former Betty Russell whom he married Jan. 18, 1961. He also leaves six children Linda (Butch) Lukehart of Mineral Ridge, Ron (Corinne) Garland of Perrysburg, OH, Kathy (Dale) Graham and Laurie (Joe) Carl both of Mineral Ridge, Rusty Garland at home, Tim (Pam) Garland of Rock Hill, SC, two brothers Ray Garland of McDonald, OH, Kay Garland of Canfield, OH 18 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Naomi Wilson and a brother Paul Garland. Friends may call at the Lane Funeral Home-Mineral Ridge Chapel from 5-9 PM Tuesday and 1 hour prior to the services at the church on Wed.
