Roy Edward Toney

November 9, 1941 — July 30, 2011

Roy Edward Toney Sr., affectionately known as “Boss” reach the end of his earthly journey and found his eternal home on July 30, 2011 He was a lifelong resident of Girard, Ohio. He was a Girard High School graduate class of 1960. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served with distinction, traveling the world for 6 years. He retired as an over the road truck driver in 2004. Roy was a faithful member and servant of the Austintown First Free Will Baptist Church where he served on the board as a trustee. Roy assisted in the foundingof the “Masters Men” local chapter, where he served as president, vice president, and currently served as secretary/treasurer. Roy was joyfully greeted in heaven by his mother Gladys Broom, his father William Toney, his eldest son Thomas Edward, his oldest daughter, Kathern Marie, and most recently his youngest daughter, Tracy Lynn. Roy leaves behind his beloved and cherished wife Elaine. Formerly Elaine Heck, whom he blended families with in 1972. Together they raised the six children lovingly referred to as their “Toney Tribe”. Roy also leaves behind his daughter Michelle (Bill) Daugherty of Girard, two sons Michael also of Girard and Roy Jr. (Samantha) of Struthers. Roy deeply loved his family. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. The grandchildren touched by his life of faithful witnessing include: Tim and Kristi Toney of Niles, Steven, Paul and Dana Swartz of Beaver Local, Patrick Toney of Youngstown, Ashley Mackey of Youngstown, Myron, James and Brianna Kelly of Youngstown, Troy, Alex and Jacob Toney of Struthers, William J. Daugherty III and Ella Skidmore/Daugherty of Girard, Michelle Skidmore of Columbus and Nicole Wayne of Cleveland. Roy touched many lives while on his earthly journey and many lives are richer for it. Our family will miss his warm smile, his comforting and nurturing way. Roy never knew the word “NO” and he was truly a good and faithful friend and servant to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As we shed selfish tears, he is now pain free and finally home. Until we meet again, we will miss you every second of the day. Funeral service will be held at 11 AM Thursday at the First Free Will Baptist Church in Austintown. Friends may call from 4 to 6 PM Wednesday at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel and again from 10 AM to 11 AM Thursday at the church. Roy will be laid to rest in St. Louis Missouri alongside his eldest son Thomas Edward Toney in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
