Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday at the Canfield Presbyterian Church for Ruby J. Bancroft of Canfield who passed away early Sunday morning at her home. Ruby was born July 6, 1918 in Poland, Ohio the daughter of Thomas S. and Lillian L. (Black) Richards. She retired in 1979 after thirteen years of service in the records office at Youngstown State University and was a member of her church for over 50 years where she served as a Deacon. Ruby was also a member of the The Rebecca’s of the Order of Odd Fellows in Struthers and the Justice Court Number 26, Order of Amaranth. She was a member of the Ruritan Women’s Auxiliary in Canfield and the Canfield Extension Club. The steadfastness of her faith enabled her to accept whatever challenges she had to face or endure. Her family which spanned five generations was the center of her life and she spread her love evenly and fully amongst all. Besides her husband William whom she married April 23, 1939, Ruby leaves five children: William N. (Sally) Bancroft of Hubbard, Thomas S. (Beverly) Bancroft of New Palestine, IN, Nancy Dunn of Canfield, Martha J. (John) Dorrance of Canfield, and Dr. Peggy Bancroft of Lander, WY. She also leaves two brothers: Thomas S. (Viola) Richards of Stone Mountain, GA, and Robert E. (Ethel) Richards of Poland. Ruby also leaves nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother William James Richards, and sisters: Evelyn Jean Schoenfelt and Lillian L. Paulin. Friends and family may call from 6-8 PM on Wednesday at the Lane Funeral Home Canfield Chapel. Memorial contributions may be sent to either Hospice of the Valley at 5190 Market St, Boardman, OH 44512 or to the Canfield Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund at 140 W. Main St, Canfield, OH 44406.
