Russell L Dunkerley

November 2, 1938 — November 23, 2014

Russell L. Dunkerley, age 76 of Aurora, IL passed away November 23, 2014 at Seasons Hospice in Naperville, IL. He was born November 2, 1938 in Youngstown, Ohio. Russell was retired from the Veterans Administration Office of the Inspector General after 25 years of service as a Healthcare Internal Auditor and prior to that works as Controller at Goodyear Tire in Ohio. Russell graduated from South High School, Youngstown, and received a Bachelors of Science Degree from Youngtown University in Ohio in 1963. He was a Certified Public Accountant, and earned/received numerous awards, certifications, service/performance accommodations, etc. from the Veterans Administration, as well as various Accountant associations for his service over the course of several years up until his retirement at which time he received a 25 year recognition award from the Veterans Administration as the "Duke", (which was their term of endearment for him) in November of 2003. He was also a longtime active member of the Masonic Lodge #862 in Riverside, IL. Russell was a loving husband, brother, and uncle, (in addition to having/showing unconditional love and compassion to Tammy), embraced Sandra's family as his own, and touched many lives with love during his time on earth. He loved having family gatherings, entertaining, and of course he was the Bar B Q chef extraordinaire when it came to grilling out on the deck. He was an avid Cleveland Browns and Indians fan along with Da Bears K(when the Bears were winning, of course), and in his spare time enjoyed going to baseball games in additional to making those times with family special events. Russell's family would also like to express their appreciation to the Seasons Hospice staff who made it possible for Russell to make the trip home to meet our Lord both blessed and peaceful, Dr. Alice Daniele, and Kari Palishen both of Dreyer Medical, and the VNA of Fox Valley for all of their assistance and support. He is survived by his wife, Sandra and her daughter, Tammy of Aurora; sister, Vera Alice Russell of Ohio; niece Vera Lynn (Bill) Barnes of Ohio; great-niece, Courtney Russell and her son Christian of Ohio; and longtime friend, Tyson Kuhrmeier of Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Vera; brothers, James and Thomas; and former wife, Lucille. Funeral services will be held at the Lane Family Funeral Home-Austintown Chapel, 5797 Mahoning Avenue, Austintown, Ohio 44515 at 4:00 PM, Sunday, November 30, 2014 where Pastor Jack Acri will celebrate Russell's life.
