Youngstown-Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 AM Wednesday at St. Dominic Catholic Church with the Rev. William Rock officiating for Russell W. Carney of Youngstown, who passed away at 1:12 AM Sunday, December 04, 2005 in Forum Health Northside Medical Center. Russell was 54. Russell was born on March 25, 1951 in Hubbard, Ohio and was the son of Eugene A. and Eillien E. (Kelly) Carney. Russell was a 1971 graduate of Hubbard High School. Russell retired in 1986 from LTV Sheet and Tube after working for 21 years as a drawbench operator. After retiring, Russell was employed for three years with Greif Bros. in Youngstown. Russell was a veteran of the United States Army having served in Vietnam from 1971 until 1972 with the 101st Airborne Division. During his service, Russell received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Bronze Star, and the Expert (Rifle) Commendation. Russell was of the Roman Catholic faith and was a member of the National Riffle Association. Russell enjoyed hunting, fishing, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Russell was married to Mary Lou (Ohlinger) Carney, who passed away on March 28, 1995. Russell will be sadly missed by his children Brian K. (Jennifer) Carney of Avon, OH, and Kimberly A. Babbaro of Youngstown; a brother Eugene F. (Jeri) Carney of Salem; two sisters Carol (Ken) Kaszowski of Masury, and Janine A. (Gary) Evanoff of Youngstown; two grandchildren Kolin J. Carney and Helanea M. Carney; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, Russell was preceded in death by his parents. Family will receive friends from 5 until 8 PM Tuesday at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel, where closing prayers will be recited at 9:15 AM Wednesday prior to leaving for church. Burial with full military honors will take place in Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.
