Samuel W Ackerman

Samuel W. Ackerman, 95 of Howland Township, died on Sunday, April 22, 2012, at Shepherd Of The Valley in Howland. He was born June 13, 1916 in McKeesRocks, Pennsylvania the son of the late Beni and Bertha Guttman Ackerman. Sam was a Warren resident since 1957 coming from Farrell, Pa. He served in the Army infantry during World War II. Sam and his wife, Estelle were the owners of Maple Grove Market in Windham for 23 years, retiring in 1980. Sam was a member of Beth Israel Temple in Warren and B'nai Brith. He was a member of the Jewish War Veterans in Farrell, Pa., Windham American Legion Post No. 674 and Newton Falls VFW Post No. 3332. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Estelle Cukerbaum Ackerman, whom he married February 11, 1940; one daughter, Annette B. Ackerman of Warren and one sister, Dorothy Zoldan of Phoenix, Arizona as well as nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday. April 24, 2012 at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts-Clark Chapel in Warren. Burial will be at Beth Israel Cemetery in Warren Township. Memorial contributions may be made to Beth Israel Temple Center.
