Austintown- Mass of Christian Burial with Father Stephen Popovich and Full Law Enforcement Honors will be held on Tuesday, April 5, 2005 at 10 AM in Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish for Sgt. Joseph Anthony Passarelli III of Homestead, Florida, who passed suddenly March 25, 2005. Joe was 41. Joe was born on August 11, 1963 in Youngstown, Ohio the son of Joseph and Marlane (Suetta) Passarelli. Joe was a 1981 graduate of Fitch High School and played little league for the Stoneys as a youth. Joe was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Austintown, where he also was an altar boy and attended school for 8 years prior to graduating from Fitch High School. Joe continued his education at Youngstown State University majoring in Criminology. Joe joined the Monroe County Sheriffs Department after moving to the Florida Keys in 1988. Joe was currently attending the Southern Police Institute out of the University of Louisville in the Command Officer Developmental Course, in which he was selected and excelling in the class. Joe was previously employed at Passarelli Bros. INC, where he worked with his entire family for several years. Joe was a 17 year veteran of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department in Monroe County Florida, where he was the Senior Sergeant Control Supervisor of FTO (Supervisor of Field Training) and all trainees. Joe was the first level supervisor at the New Substation in Key Largo. Among his many achievements, this remarkable man was for many years president of the Sheriff Departments “Fraternal Order of Police”. Prior to moving to Florida, Joe was a Deputy for the Mahoning County Sheriffs Department in Youngstown. Joe was an avid hunter and enjoyed boating, and deep sea fishing but most of all spending time with his daughter Julia. Joe is survived by his parents of Austintown, Ohio, a daughter Julia Eileen Passarelli of Florida, a brother James Passarelli of North Jackson, a sister Rachelle (George) Garltic of Struthers, nieces Gina Passarelli and Kelly Garltic, and nephews Travis Garltic and George Garltic Jr,. Joe also leaves his Uncles and Aunts; Fred and Barbara Passarelli, Tom and Diane Hammar, and Marlea Passarelli all of Youngstown and Robert and Patricia Passarelli of Boardman. Joe also had a special bond with his cousins, Rena Yeagley, Michelle Siciliano, Natalie and David Passarelli, and Michael Hammar all of Youngstown, and Marcie Martin of New York. Joe’s loving and extended family in Florida included each and every Deputy & Officer in the Florida Keys not to mention O.B., Nancy, Mark, Terri, Chas, Spencer and Danielle Hyatt. Joe was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Joe and Gloria Passarelli, and maternal grandmother Margaret Suetta. The Monroe County Sheriffs Department is paying tribute to Joe at the highest level of a fallen comrade and is retiring Joe’s radio I.D. #7104. Family will receive friends from 5 to 8 PM Monday, April 4, 2005 at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel, where closing prayers will be said at 9:15 AM Tuesday. The Monroe County Sheriffs Department held services in Florida prior to services here. “Soar with the Eagles Joseph” May God grant us love and understanding as we celebrate a dear life.
