Sharon M Scott

March 19, 1947 — September 13, 2010

Sharon M. Scott, of Austintown, passed away at 9:45 a.m. Monday, September 13, 2010 in her home following a four year battle with cancer. She was 63 years old. Sharon was born on March 19, 1947 in Cleveland, Ohio the daughter of the late Lloyd and Marie Scott and was raised in Salem, Ohio. Sharon attended and graduated in 1965 from Villa Maria High School in Villa Maria, PA. She went on to graduate in 1968 from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing and furthered her education receiving a Bachelor Degree in Nursing from Youngstown State University and a Master's Degree in Nursing from the University of Akron. Sharon worked briefly at Warren General Hospital. She held various positions at St. Elizabeth Hospital including Med-Surgical, Head Nurse, taught employee education and computer nursing; and was an instructor of Nursing at St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing before its closure. She taught nursing at Youngstown State University and Penn State Shenango and was a Certified Diabetic Educator. Sharon served on the Board of Directors for Sacred Heart Retreat House. She was a volunteer at the Beatitude House and a member of the Catholic Alumni Association and a charter member of the 1968 class of St. Elizabeth School of Nursing, which met once a month for over 40 years. Sharon was of the catholic faith and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Austintown where she taught CCD classes. She enjoyed shopping and her cat Molly. Sharon loved her church and loved to travel and visit the state of Maine. Sharon is survived by her companion of ten years and 24 hour care giver who has been by her side for the last three months, Mark French of Boardman; three nephews Mitchell, Matthew and Martin Scott; and two nieces Michelle Scott and Mary Ann Heaton. Besides her parents, Sharon was preceded in death by a brother William Scott; a sister-in-law Delores Scott and two nephews Michael and Mark Scott. Calling hours will take place on Saturday, September 18, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. in the Vestibule of St. Joseph Catholic Church 4545 New Road, Austintown, Ohio, 44515. A Memorial Mass will take place on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Gregory Fedor officiating in the church. Inurnment will take place in Harpswell, Maine at a later date in October. The family would like to thank Hospice of the Valley and especially Sharon's nurse Diane and aide Barb for all of their care, prayers and support that they gave to her and her family during their time of need; also to all of Sharon's devoted friends who cared for her at the end The family suggests that memorial contributions take the form of donations in Sharon's name to Hospice of the Valley.
