Shirley Elizabeth Standley, 80 of Farmdale, passed away Thursday morning, June 11, 2015, at Windsor House due to a prolonged illness after suffering a stroke. She was born July 24, 1934 in New Castle, PA, the daughter of the late Grace McDonald McFarland Ring. Shirley married her husband of 54 years, Simeon G. Standley on February 27, 1954 and they were together until his death on December 6, 2008. Shirley was a graduate of New Castle High School and was previously employed by Kroger's Grocery Stores in Warren. She was an avid Cincinnati Bengals fan and enjoyed feeding her hummingbirds. She liked traveling and camping at Pymatuning, when her children were young. Survivors include her daughter, Bonnie (Ken) Klein of Johnston; her son, David (Kim) Standley of Farmdale; her sister, Wilma Boyles and her brother, Duane McFarland both of New Castle; her grandson, Steve (Lindsay) Klein of Austintown and her two great grandchildren, Carter and Addison. Besides by her mother, Shirley was preceded in death by one sister, Louise MacAnallen; one brother, John McFarland and her stepdad, Arthur Ring. There will be no services or calling hours for Shirley and cremation will be held. Arrangements were entrusted to Lane Family Funeral Homes, Shafer-Winans Chapel in Cortland. The family expresses appreciation to the staff of Windsor House and Hospice of the Valley for the care that Shirley received. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Youngstown, OH 44512.
