Shirley Sue "Susie" (Coombs) Martin, age 60, of Newton Falls died Saturday evening, December 20, 2008, at Hospice House in Poland. She was born November 9, 1948 in Youngstown the daughter of Frederick "Fritz" Coombs and Shirley (Amon) Galus. Susie was raised in Vienna and had lived in Newton Falls for 34 years. She was a 1966 graduate of Mathews High School. She had recently worked for West Corporation but hand owned Cranberry Run Candle Company and was co-owner of Home Again Gift Shop in Newton Falls. Susie was well known for her "Christmas in the Barn" craft show, featuring several artists and vendors, held at her barn in Newton Falls for several years. She loved candle making and crafts, which became her vocation. She was a founding member of the Red Hat Society in Trumbull County, called the Ruby Begonias. Susie and her husband, John, loved raising their grandson, Michael Mulligan. She is survived by her mother, Shirley Galus of Greenville, PA; her father, Fritz Coombs of Greene Twp.; her husband John E. Martin, whom she married June 5, 1989; one son, Stephen D. (Melissa) Whiteley of Windham; two daughters, Stacy A. and her husband, Stacy House of Eagle, Wisc. and Megan E. and her husband, Kevin Henline of Southington; an aunt who raised her, Doris Provich of Warren; seven grandchildren, Brandon and Amber Whiteley, Justin and James House, Michael Mulligan, Natalee King, and Aiden Lambert; one sister, Sandy Rogers of Seattle, Wash.; and three brothers, Mark and Eric Hoeck both of Greenville and Fred Coombs of Greene Township. One sister, Linda Stephen preceded her in death. Arrangements are being handled by Roberts-Clark Funeral Chapel in Warren where the memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 27, 2008, with Pastor Jay Eastman officiating. The family will greet friends that Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at a covered dish luncheon at the Windham American Legion Post No. 674 on State Route 303 in Windham, Ohio.
