Sophia Ann Ward

Sophia Ann Ward, "Sophie", age 101, passed peacefully at 12:40 AM on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at her home in Champion Estates Assisted Living under the very special care of Crossroads Hospice, and the very caring staff of Windsor House. She was born on January 1, 1913 in Greenville, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth Dunton Rylander. Sophie graduated from Greenville Highs School and several years later met and married John E. Ward of Sharon, PA in 1933. She worked in the food business for many years and retired in 1975 from Fisher Fazio. Sophie then moved to Sun City, Arizona for 15yrs. Some of her hobbies included listening to music and playing cards and bingo while she still retained her sight. Sophie loved being a part of family get-togethers and spending time with everyone. Sophie and John were parents to three children, Sheila (Tom) Stiver of Cortland, Thomas (Amy) Ward of Fountain Hills, Arizona, and John A. Ward who is deceased. John's wife Carol resides in Valley Lee, Maryland. She was "Nana" to six grandchildren, Laura Bitonte, Thomas (Theresa) Stiver, Carrie Roland, Jeffrey (Rebecca) Ward, and Kirsten DeBie, and was great-grandmother to nine. Funeral services will be held at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts-Clark Chapel in Warren, at 10:30 AM on Saturday, August 16, 2014. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Friday, August 15, 2014 from 5:00 7:00 PM. Sophia will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Crown Hill Burial Park, Vienna, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Crossroads Hospice, 9775 Rockside Road, Suite 270, Valley View, Ohio 44125.
