Stanley D. Mcneel, Sr.

Stanley D. “Dean” McNeel, Sr., of 558 Stateline Rd, SE, Masury, Ohio, died at 3:00 AM Friday at John XXIII, Hermitage, Pennsylvania, following an extended illness. He was 74. Mr. McNeel was born in Alhambra, California on Sept. 14, 1930, a son of Oliver and Betty (Stokes) McNeel. Dean graduated high school in 1948, Grossmont, Ca, and then began his military career serving our country as a Master SGT in the U.S. Marines Corp for 20 years during the Korean & Vietnam Conflicts before his retirement in 1970. He was a decorated soldier having received the National Defense Medal with (1) Bronze Star, Korean Service Medal with (4) Bronze Stars, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnamese Campaign Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal with (4) Bronze Stars, Meritorious Mast, Presidential Unit Citation with (3) Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal with (5) Bronze Stars, and the Navy Achievement Medal with Combat “V”. Following his military discharge, he had worked over 30 years as a Pinkerton Security Guard, Akron, Ohio, and 4 1/2 years at Westinghouse Electric, Sharon, Pennsylvania. In his spare time, Dean enjoyed crossword puzzles. Survivors include: wife, Pauline (Yarabenetz) McNeel, whom he married 11-29-52; 2 sons, Stanley Jr., Liberty Twp., Ohio, and Dale R. McNeel, Hinesville, Georgia; half-brother, James Butler, Grossmont, California; 3 grandchildren & 1 great-grandson. He was preceded in death by: his parents; and a grandson, Maxwell E. McNeel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday at the Madasz Funeral Chapel, Brookfield, with Lt. Col. Paul Milliken, Senior Chaplin @ 910th Airlift Wing, Vienna, Ohio. Calling hours will be from 4-7 PM Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Brookfield Twp. Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorial Contributions can be made to American Cancer Society.
