Stanley Elmer Stoddard

Mineral Ridge- Memorial services will be held at a later date for Stanley E. Stoddard, age 93 of Mineral Ridge who died Tuesday afternoon at Briarfield at the Ridge. Stanley was born Oct. 24, 1914 in Pembroke, Maine and moved to Eastport, Maine at the age of 4. He was the son of the late Ralph and Blanche (Bogrette) Stoddard. Stanley had worked for the Army Engineers and the Eastport, Maine Post Office before accepting employment in Washington, D.C. in 1940. He retired from the Washington D.C. Post Office in 1972 after thirty years of service, fifteen of which as a supervisor in various capacities. He also had served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He returned to Eastport, Maine in 1972 where he spent the summers and spent the winters in Lake Worth, FL before permanently settling in Eastport. He moved to Niles, OH in 1998. Stanley was a member of the Central Congregational Church in Eastport, Maine and the Potomac Lodge, F&AM No. 5 of Washington D.C. His wife, the former Edna Sutherland, whom he married on May 29, 1941, died March 3, 2004. He leaves a son James and his wife Dianne Stoddard of Mineral Ridge, two granddaughters, Kristine (Rob) Rainey of Kirtland, OH, Kara (Daniel) Calderon of Edmond, Oklahoma and four great grandchildren, Erik Rainey, Ryan Rainey, Ana Calderon and Joaquin Calderon. He also leaves three nieces, Eleanor Bergin of Osterville, Mass., Barbara Goodeill of Bangor, Maine and Elaine Dresser of Bethel, Maine. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and two brothers, Russell and Charles Stoddard. There are no calling hours.
