Stephen Simon Sabo

Stephen S. "Pista" Sabo, age 83, of Bristolville, Ohio, died Tuesday, November 4, 2008, at Cortland Healthcare Center in Cortland, Ohio. He was born on October 25, 1925 in Calumet, PA., the son of the late Frank and Katalin (Buczko) Sabo. Mr. Sabo was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during WW II and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Steve worked for 17 years as a Typewriter Technician for the Royal Typewriter Co., retiring in 1972. He was a member of St. Roberts Catholic Church in Cortland and had belonged to the St. Margaret of Hungary Mass Choir in Cleveland. Steve was extremely proud of his Hungarian nationality and enjoyed attending the various Hungarian festivals. Mr. Sabo never met a stranger. He was a people person and enjoyed spending his time with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth M. (Garay) Sabo, whom he married on September 30, 1950; one daughter, Christine M. (Richard) Hauzer of Bay Village, OH. He was a loving and wonderful grandpa to Laura Anne Elizabeth Hauzer as well as three other granddaughters and one grandson. Steve is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their extended families. He was preceded in death by two sons, Stephen Sabo and George Sabo and one brother, Frank Sabo. Arrangements are being handled by Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel, 164 North High Street, Cortland, Ohio, where the family will receive friends from 2 PM to 4 PM and from 6 PM to 8 PM Sunday, November 9, 2008. Funeral service will be at St. Roberts Church at 10:30 AM Monday where the family will receive friends from 10 AM - 10:30 AM at the church. Interment will be at All Souls Cemetery in Cortland, where he will receive military honors. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Roberts Catholic Church, 4659 Niles Cortland Rd.
