Steve C. Prezgay

February 25, 1933 — September 30, 2009

Steve Charles Prezgay of Stewart Sharon Road and formerly of 7871 Chestnut Street for more than 49 years, passed away at 5:15AM Wednesday September 30, 2009 at Sharon Regional Hospital after a short but valiant battle against Squamous Cell Cancer of the Lung. He was surrounded by his loving children, brothers, and sisters, grandchildren and was 76 years old. Mr. Prezgay was born on February 25, 1933 in Farrell, PA to Nicholas and Frances (Novosel) Prezgay. Steve served our country in the United States Air Force with 461st Communications Squadron from 1951-1955 as a Teletype Technician. His decorations and citations include the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He married Dolores "Dolly" Soncini on January 20, 1955 and together they would share more than fifty-four years of marriage. After his service in the Air Force, Mr. Prezgay went on to join many of his friends and relatives who worked for Sharon Steel Inc. He would go on to work there for more than 38 years before the mill closed down. Mr. Prezgay was a true man of God whose main hobbies and passions evolved around the Bible and his beloved family. He enjoyed having Biblical discussions with anyone he would meet, but his main energies were reserved for his family. Steve was a true "family man" before that term became used so frequently by popular media. Mr. Prezgay is survived by his four children; three daughters Daryle Herman and her husband Ronald of Howland, OH, Stephany Skrbina and her husband Paul of Port Clinton, OH, and Karen Grimm and her husband Robert of Salem, OH; his son Steven T. Prezgay of Masury, OH. In addition Mr. Prezgay passing will be greatly mourned by his 10 beloved grandchildren Nicole Mathias and her husband Sam of Sebring, OH, Cortney Herman of Chagrin Falls, OH, Ron Herman of Aurora, OH, Adrienne and Anthony Finley of Port Clinton, OH, Sarah Skrbina of Columbus, OH, Abby Skrbina of Columbus, OH, Alexis Crowgey and her husband Evan of Crowgey, NC, Marcus Grimm of Akron, OH, Zachary Grimm of Muskingum, OH, and the grandson with whom he shared a very special bond and helped to raise Aaron Prezgay of Masury, OH. Also surviving are four brothers Mike Prezgay and his wife Mary Ann, Joe Prezgay and his wife Diane both of Hermitage, PA, Walter Prezgay and his wife Joyce of Sharon, PA, Frank Prezgay and his wife Sandy of Las Vegas, NV; three sisters Mary Masotto and her husband Pete of Hermitage, PA, Barbara Passlinqua of Hermitage, PA, Zora Koukis of Farrell, PA; sister-in-law Agnes Prezgay of Farrell, PA; and many beloved Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife "Dolly" on June 8, 2009, by his parents, by his brothers William "Vinko" Prezgay, and Albert Prezgay and his wife Betsy; by his two brothers-in-laws Steve Koukis and Bob Passlinqua; and by an infant sister who died shortly after her birth. Calling hours will be held this Friday evening (10-02-2009) at Lane Funeral Homes Madasz Chapel, Brookfield, Ohio from 3-7 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday October 3, 2009 at St. Anthony Croatian Catholic Church in Farrell, PA with Rev. Daniel Kresinski Pastor. Friends and family are asked to go directly to the church before the Mass. Burial will be with his wife and family at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery in Farrell, PA.
