The world has lost a very kind and strong woman, Susan Kay Ewing. Her courageous battle with cancer ended Jan 25, 2015 in a house filled with love, surrounded by family, and nestled in with her dog, Jakie. Sue enjoyed life on every level, sharing 49 years of marriage with her dear husband, Ralph Harold Ewing. They spent the majority of those years as residents of Lake Milton scattering in a few years in the Outer Banks and most recently moving to Tallmadge, OH. Together, they enjoyed beach vacations, winery tours with friends, and, most importantly, raising a loving family. She was a best friend to her daughters Tracy Tackett, Danielle (Christopher) Smolek, and Wendy Ewing. Nothing lit up her day more than her grandchildren Alexander, Ian, and Grace Tackett and grand dogs, Pepper and Minnie. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Dorothy (Schreck) Fagan, and her sister, Carol (Fagan) Calabrese. She is survived by her husband, daughters, sister, Pamela (Robert) Gaps, brother, Thomas (Lynn) Fagan, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Our firecracker, Susan, was born July 4, 1946. She was a 1964 graduate of Liberty High School and earned her degree at Youngstown State University. Sue spent her life teaching children, both her own and within the community. Over the years, she taught at St. Rose, Jackson-Milton, Head Start, and helped Mahoning County's smallest citizens as a disabilities coordinator for Youngstown Community Action Council. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and Lake Milton Ladies Association, combining her love of spending time with friends and helping the community. A Memorial Service will be held at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at 4:00PM where friends will be received one hour prior to the service. Susan and her family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all family, friends, and medical team members including Hospice of Summa who have offered their support and love throughout Susan's journey. You made a huge difference in our lives and we truly appreciate you. In lieu of flowers, Susan has requested that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org/Donate.
