Sylvia "Syl" Stephens

WARREN-Sylvia "Syl" Stephens, 94, passed away at 8:20AM Saturday, September 5, 2009 at her daughter's residence. Sylvia was born April 17, 1915 in Mineral Ridge, OH the daughter of the late Samuel and Rhoda (Miller) Lawrence. Syl was a 1934 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School and retired after working for 29 years for the City of Warren in the City Income Tax Department as a clerk. Syl was a member of Central Christian Church and was a member of the Warren Emblem Club where she served as past president. She also was a past president of the Ohio State Association and West Virginia Association of Emblem Club. Syl was an avid Cleveland Indians Fan and enjoyed playing BINGO, doing word search puzzles and most especially enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Syl was married on June 9, 1934 to John Stephens and they were married for 63 years until his passing on January 23, 1998. Syl is survived by her daughter Judy (Dave) Preston with whom she made her home; two grandsons David John (Kris) Preston of Howland and Doug (Shelly) Preston of Cortland; three great grandchildren Matthew and Morgan Preston and Nicholas Preston of Cortland and her special canine friend Trooper. A Funeral Service will take place on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at 2PM in the Roberts Clark Funeral Chapel, 180 Garfield Dr NE, Warren, where family will receive friends one hour prior to the services. Burial will follow in Pineview Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions take the form of donations to Hospice of the Valley.
