Thane Charles Haryu, 84, died Friday April 20, 2007 at Providence Care Center, Sandusky, OH from complications of colon cancer. Born January 16, 1923 in Painesville, OH, the son of Charles and Hilma (Killinen) Haryu, he lived most of his life in Warren, OH until a few years ago when he re-located to Castalia, OH and then to the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky. A graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, he received a Bachelors Degree in business from Kent State University. He served in the US Army during WW II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was discharged as a PFC and received the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, EAME Eastern Campaign medal with 4 bronze stars and the WWII Victory medal. Thane retired form the American Welding Corp. where he worked for 35 years as an expeditor in the production control dept. He was a charter member of the Living Lord Lutheran Church of Howland where he sang in the choir for many years and was a member of Sincerity Masonic Lodge #694 of Niles. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara (Pause) Haryu in 2000, his parents and a sister Norma Zimomra. He is survived by his sons, the Rev.Douglas Haryu Sr. and wife Karen, of Toledo, Richard Haryu of Milan, OH, a sister Doris Haryu of Warren, grandchildren Julie Conti, Karina Conti, Douglas Haryu Jr. and a great granddaughter Alexis Conti all of Toledo. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday April 28, 2007 at Roberts-Clark Chapel where friends will be received for 1 hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Crown Hill Burial Park where military rites will be observed.
