Services will be held 1 PM Tuesday at the Mt. Mariah Church in Berlin Center for The Rev. David Phoenix, 55, of Twinsburg who went home to the Lord on Thursday June 18, 2009. Rev. Phoenix was born on April 27, 1954 in Schenectady New York, the son of Raymond and Mavis (Richens) Phoenix. He moved to Lyndhurst Ohio from New Jersey in 1982 and to Twinsburg in 1998. Rev. Phoenix was ordained in 1997 and was currently the pastor of Mt. Mariah Lutheran Church in Berlin Center since 1998. He also was the Director of Christian Education and Youth Ministry at Messiah Lutheran Church in Lyndhurst, and had also been the Director of Christian Education and Youth Ministry at Grace Lutheran in Phillipsburg, New Jersey prior to coming to Ohio. Rev. Phoenix graduated from State University of New York: college at Brockport, NY. He earned his MAR degree from the Lutheran Theological Seminary Gettysburg, PA, and his Master of Divinity at Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, OH. Besides his parents of Schenectady, Rev. Phoenix leaves his wife, the former Lynann Chester, whom he married August 8, 1977, two daughters; Sara Phoenix of Twinsburg, and Leah Phoenix of New York, NY. He also leaves two brothers; Wayne Phoenix of Syracuse, NY, and Mark Phoenix of Schenectady, and one sister; Janice Phoenix of Schenectady. Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 PM Monday at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel and again from 11 AM until the time of service on Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Mt. Mariah Lutheran Church general fund in Rev. Phoenix’s name.
