Thomas J. Conroy

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 8th at 11:00 AM at the Canfield United Methodist Church for Thomas J. Conroy of Montridge Dr. in Canfield who passed away Tuesday afternoon at Austinwoods Nursing Home in Austintown. Mr. Conroy was born November 2, 1920 in Youngstown, the son of Thomas and Bridget (O’Malia) Conroy. A WWII Army veteran, Tom was the owner of Conroy’s IGA on Mahoning Avenue in Youngstown for many years. He was past president of the Youngstown Area Grocers Association, a member of the Ohio Grocers Association, Westside Merchants, the Canfield AARP, and the Canfield Community Club. Besides his wife Phyllis I. (Burnett) Conroy, whom he married July 16, 1976 Tom leaves five children: Patricia (Stanley) Potkay of Youngstown, Mary (Joe) Long of Independence, OH, Thomas Conroy of Cleveland, OH, Barbara (Ted) Cieslak of San Antonio TX and Janet Conroy of Boardman, OH. He also leaves 3 step-children: Barbara (Tom) Bautsch of Canfield, Nancy Shepard of Charleston, SC, and Cynthia (John) Reid of Sedona, AZ. Also surviving are a brother Richard of Austintown, and 16 grandchildren, as well as 3 great-grandchildren. Mr. Conroy was preceded in death by his first wife Janette (Donald) who passed away on September, 16, 1970. He was also preceded in death by a brother Francis Conroy and six sisters: Mary McGuinness, Catherine Helming, Grace Abbey, Margaret Cantonzaret, Eileen Krajewski, and Rita McDonough. Friends and family may call at the Lane Funeral Home Canfield chapel on Thursday, February 7th from 5-8 PM. as well as 1 hour prior to the services at the church on Friday.
