A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 AM Wednesday at St. Michael Catholic Church for Thomas J. Dwyer, 78, of Canfield who passed away Sunday April 19, 2015 at Humility House. Tom was born August 13, 1936 in New Bethlehem, PA. son of the late Thomas P. and Ruth (Clinger) Dwyer and came to the area in 1966. He retired from the General Motors Lordstown maintenance department, in 2000 after more than 30 years of service. Tom was a member of the church, and the St. Michael's Men's Club. He was also involved with Barbershop singing for 48 years most recently with the Stephen Foster Chorus in Warren for the past 20 years. Tom was a jack of all trades and could fix almost anything. He also enjoyed traveling, and loved watching and investing in the stock market, and was always willing to give investment advice. Most of all, Tom enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sporting events. Tom leaves his wife the former Evelyn "Cookie" Bauer, whom he married June 23, 1962, three children, Tom (Sharon) Dwyer of Cincinnati, Jim Dwyer of Washington DC, and Barb (Dave) Nicholson of Richfield, four grandchildren, Bryce and Chad Nicholson, Anne and Tommy Dwyer. Tom also leaves five siblings, Leona Dunkle and Helen Reed, both of Clarion, PA, Jerry Dwyer and Eileen Himes, both of New Bethlehem, PA, and Fran Seymour of Medina, OH. Besides his parents, Tom was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Kemer and Mary Kennedy and one brother, John Dwyer. Friends may call from 4 to 7 PM today at the Lane Family Funeral Home, Canfield Chapel where closing prayers will be held at 9:30 AM on Wednesday, prior to the mass at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Hospice of the Valley or to Blast Glioblastoma Cancer Research @ www.blastgbm.com in Tom's name.
