Warren Thomas S. Mason, 66, of Howland Township passed away Tuesday morning, November 23rd 2010 at Trumbull Memorial Hospital. He was born April 7th, 1944 in San Rafael CA, the eldest son of the late Alfred T. Mason and the late Bernice (Price) Mason. A resident of the area since the age of 6, Tom was a 1962 graduate of Austintown-Fitch High School. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Hospital Corpsman at the U.S. Naval Hospital at Bethesda, MD before returning to the area and working for Stambaugh's as a hardware retailer until 1973 when he was hired by Packard Electric. He worked as a Tool & Die Maker, later as Tool-room Supervisor, until retirement in 2005. A man with a strong sense of faith and family values, Tom's tireless willingness to help others led him to be active in many organizations as well as the church. He served in various coaching roles for Howland Athletic Club since 1986. Musically gifted, Tom sang tenor with the Warren Civic Chorus since 1958, and served on the board as President since 2004. He also shared his talent for music by leading the Children's Choir at United Calvary Presbyterian Church, & playing in several bagpipe bands before co-founding the Celtic Flame Pipe Band in 1999, where he has remained since as Pipe Sergeant. Tom was active in the Boy Scouts of America, serving as Troop Committee Chairman, Troop #3, Warren. He had a life-long and vocal interest in politics, and was a member of the 17th Advisory Council, U.S. Congress. Tom enjoyed a wide variety of sports & activities ranging from boxing (U.S. Navy middleweight champ), to chess. He was interested in all things mechanical. His love of performance cars led him to help design & build several for competition, and he enjoyed watching NASCAR and drag-racing. He had a passion for golf, and was named the 1994 Delphi Tool-room Golf League Champ Rookie of the Year. Tom had a soft-spot for animals, particularly cats, and he took in and cared for many over the years, who will miss him. He married the love of his life, Dian Mason (Lewis) on December 3rd, 1966 on a day both considered to be one of the clearest and brightest of their lives. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Dian Mason, Son Scott (Anita), Daughter Jennifer McIntire; all of Howland Township, and Son Adam (Mandy) of Austintown as well as 3 grandchildren: Connie & Alan Mason, and Jack McIntire; all of Howland Township; brother Fred Mason of Phoenix, AZ; sister Judith Dinkins of Phoenix, AZ; sister Janice West of Milford, CT; niece Michelle (Lewis) Jiminez of Chicago, Ill; niece Kimberly Dodson of Milford, CT; nephew Charles Jr. (CJ) Dinkins of Canton, OH; and niece Melanie Lewis of Houston, TX. He was preceded in death by parents Alfred Mason and Bernice (Price) Mason, father-in-law Samuel E. Lewis, mother-in-law Eileen Lewis, brothers-in-law Frederick Lewis and Charles Dinkins, sister-in-law Marcia Mason, and a very special nephew Craig Schenk. Loved by all who knew himand known by manyhe had the ability to make friends in minutes and keep them for life. A devoted husband, the world's best Dad & Grandpa, a trusted mentor, and a great friendTom will be dearly missed by all whose lives he touched. Visitation will be held at Robert H. Roberts-Clark Memorial Home in Warren from 6pm to 8pm Friday, December 3rd. There will be a service at 1pm Saturday, December 4th at the funeral home in Warren.
