Vance A. Dumire, 91, of Southington died at 9:05 AM Friday June 27, 2008 at his home following a brief illness. He was born Nov.25, 1916 in Marlington, West Virginia the son of John and Frankie (Sharp) Dumire. Vance came to the Warren area in 1950, then lived in Oregon for 12 years returning to Warren in 1973. He retired from the City of Warren where he worked as a janitor in the Municipal building for many years. He served in the US Army during WWII attaining the rank of First Sergeant. He was in the Rome-Arno and Po Valley campaigns and he received the Good Conduct Medal, the American Defense Medal, the American Theater Ribbon, the European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon and the Victory Medal. He was discharged in 1945. He was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church which he helped build. He enjoyed gardening, his dogs Bubba and Sarge, and spending time with his grandchildren. His wife, Genevieve R. (McKenney) Dumire whom he married Jan.28, 1957 preceded him in death Nov.1, 1998. He also was preceded in death by 4 brothers; Carl, Delton, Lewis, Marvin, and 3 sisters Catherine, Fervin, and Betty, and son-in-law Pete Tempesta. Vance in survived by 2 daughters Sheri Dumire-Hamilton of Rochester, NY, Sue Tempesta with whom he made his home, 3 grandchildren Joshua, Genevieve, and Gabrielle, and a brother Robert Dumire of Virginia. A memorial service will be 10:00 AM Monday June 30, 2008 at Otterbein United Methodist Church followed by military honors. Roberts-Clark Chapel was entrusted with the arrangements. Vance will be cremated and his ashes entombed at the Crown Hill Cemetery Mausoleum. Material contributions may be made to Forum Health At-Home Hospice 8747 Squires Lane NE Warren, OH 44484.
