Vera F. Schmidt

Funeral services will be held noon Monday at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel for Vera F. Schmidt of Austintown who died Thursday evening at the Humility House. Mrs. Schmidt was born February 10, 1913 in Youngstown the daughter of Charles H. and Anna (Koenig) Timm and was a life long area resident. Mrs. Schmidt retired in 1970, after 18 years, from the Mahoning County T.B. Sanatorium where she had first worked as a private duty nurse and then as supervisor on the surgical floor. She was a member of the Austintown Community Church, was Baptized and Confirmed at the former St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Youngstown, and a member of the American Red Cross, during WWII as a medical disaster volunteer during air raid warnings. She graduated from The Rayen School in January 1930, Warren City Hospital School of Nursing in June of 1934. She is survived by two children: Sandra I. Williams and Frank C. Schmidt both of Austintown; five grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank J Schmidt whom she married February 10, 1935, and passed away April 1974.
