Verlie A. Butcher

Verlie A. Butcher, age 75, of Cortland, Ohio, died Wednesday, February 20, 2008, at 5 a.m. at the Community Skilled Nursing Centre in Warren. She was born on July 30, 1932 in Clarksburg, WV., the daughter of the late Lotus Swiger and the late Lillie (Jones) Swiger. Verlie was a lifetime area resident and a twenty year member of the First Church of God in Cortland. She loved singing and playing the piano. Her husband, Elwood "Woody" Butcher, preceded her in death on July 15, 1996. She is survived by two sons, Richard Butcher of Cortland and Robert Butcher of Warren; one brother, Orlin Swiger of Niles and two sisters, Lerlin Homewood of Moore, OK., and Willa Yeater of Warren. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Amber, Adam and Jaycee Butcher. Verlie was preceded in death by one brother, Coy Swiger. Services will be 5 P.m. Friday, February 22, 2008 at the Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
